WHAT IS A TOMAHAWK AND HOW TO COOK IT?

The king of meat cuts! The Tomahawk steak is a beef cut that has become famous for its impressive appearance. This cut is a long bone-in ribeye with a long bone resembling a Native American tomahawk, hence its name. It’s of premium quality, combining the succulence of ribeye with the flavor that the bone imparts.

Prepare Your Tomahawk on the Grill

Before venturing onto the grill, it’s important to properly prepare this cut, so in this blog, we’ll teach you how to do it:

  • Temperature: Take the meat out of the refrigerator at least an hour before cooking to let it reach room temperature. This will ensure even cooking.
  • Seasoning: Rub your Tomahawk with a mixture of coarse salt, black pepper, and other seasonings of your choice. Simplicity is often the key!
  • Fire up the Grill: Heat the grill to medium-high heat. We want intense heat to sear the meat and then cook it indirectly.

Perfect Sear: Place the cut on the hot grill and sear it for a few minutes on each side to achieve that delicious caramelized crust. Don’t forget the edges!

Indirect Cooking: Once seared, move it to the indirect cooking zone of the grill, away from direct flames. This will allow for slow and even cooking.

Meat Thermometer: To ensure your Tomahawk is perfectly cooked, use a meat thermometer. For medium-rare, aim for an internal temperature of about 135°F (57°C) approximately.

Rest: Don’t rush it! Let it rest for about 10 minutes after taking it off the grill. This will allow the juices to redistribute for juicier meat.
