Last Sunday, October 26, Cancún F.C hosted the Mineros de Zacatecas at the Andrés Quintana Roo Stadium in the second leg of the Liga de Expansión MX semifinals. After an emotionally charged match, Cancún managed to win at home, securing their spot in the grand final where they will face the beloved Potros de Hierro in a match that will be a classic due to Atlante’s past in Cancún.
Let’s remember that the Iguanas lost away in Zacatecas 1-0 with a goal from Carlos Sánchez in the 68th minute, temporarily giving them the pass to the grand final. However, the story would be different in the beautiful tropical paradise of Cancún.
Starting in the 10th minute, the Iguanas took the lead with a goal from Johan Alonso Chavira, followed by “El Gallito” Vazquez scoring the 2-0 after a shot from outside the area that deflected into the goal, a spectacular goal. However, rain made its presence in the stadium, where minutes after a tremendous downpour, José Rodríguez scored the 3-0 before the match was suspended.
The match resumed after two and a half hours, with Zacatecas closing in just before halftime with a goal from Kevin Magaña. In the second half, the Pumas UNAM youth player, Brian Figueroa, equalized the aggregate score. The 3-2 was confirmed on the scoreboard, and Cancún advanced to the final due to a better position in the overall standings.

On the other side is Atlante, who decisively eliminated Leones Negros from the University of Guadalajara and will reach the final for the fourth time in seven tournaments since the creation of Liga de Expansión, aiming to win the championship for the third time.
