AN “ODA A LA MUERTE”: CELEBRATING DAY OF THE DEAD AT LA VICENTA

Day of the Dead is a unique celebration that invites us to honor and remember our departed loved ones. It’s a celebration of life and death, full of colors, rituals, and offerings that connect us as a family to create special moments.

At La Vicenta, we understand the importance of this Mexican cultural tradition, and we are proud to be a part of it with our “Oda a la Muerte” festival from October 15th to November 3rd, featuring a special “pan de muerto” and two unique cocktails.

Why do we celebrate Day of the Dead in Mexico?

This festival is a unique blend of pre-Hispanic indigenous traditions, such as the worship of the dead, with Catholic influences brought by the colonizers. It’s a time when we believe that the spirits of our loved ones return to share with us, and we do so with offerings, “calaveritas” (sugar skulls), music, food, and rituals in cemeteries.

A Culinary Festival at La Vicenta

The heart of our offering is a “pan de muerto” like you’ve never tasted before. Baked with love and tradition, it hides an exquisite secret inside: a ganache filling made with Abuelita chocolate.

But that’s not all; accompanied by our orange-infused English sauce, it adds a citrusy and refreshing touch to the sweet and soft “pan de muerto.” In addition, the marigold flowers that adorn the plate pay tribute to Mexican tradition.

At La Vicenta, we know that the culinary experience extends beyond food to beverages. That’s why we’ve created two special cocktails inspired by the duality of life and death:

First, Mictlán, an elixir that combines the sophistication of Johnnie Walker Gold Label whiskey with the essence of Abuelita chocolate and the sweetness of almond horchata. It’s a tribute to Mictlán, the world of the dead in Mexican mythology, and it will immerse you in flavors that transcend time.

Then, Xibalbá, a drink that pays homage to the Mayan underworld. This cocktail is made with Don Julio 70 tequila, spice syrup, and a blend of marigold, orange juice, passion fruit pulp, and peach in syrup. Every sip will transport you to a place where life and death intertwine in a dance of exquisite flavors.
