HOW DO YOU EAT THE E-LIGAMX?
By: Daniel Barba Becerra @DanielBarba_ talking about eLigaMX
Visiting “La Vicenta”, going out with friends, and soccer. In that order are listed the things that we lovers of good food and sports miss (at least in my case).
Fortunately, it seems that the immediate solution for those of us who missed televised competition has arrived. The Mexican League got creative to bring us a virtual competition format that keeps the public eager to support their teams despite the lull that exists in the sports world.
But how does the eLigaMX work? Who participates? How long will it last? Read on, we’ll tell you all the details quickly and easily.
– The 18 First Division teams participate, all represented by 3 players who will rotate each match and who will be in charge of manipulating the controls of the famous FIFA 20 video game.
– The total time of the matches is 12 minutes (6 minutes per half).
– The tournament will emulate the matchdays of the real Mexican championship, so the teams already know their rivals and the corresponding calendar. The competition will end in early June prior to the resumption of the Clausura 2020 tournament.
– To avoid advantages, the average rating of all the teams is set at 85. In other words, all the “dolphins” run equally fast, all are equally strong, and have the same conditions; the magic is provided by whoever controls them.
– Each team will select the player who will be active two days before the start of the match. Only one player plays per game.
– The console on which the game is played is PlayStation 4, with the players linked from their homes for the sake of a healthy distance.
The tournament has already started and the reception has been positive (with mixed opinions, clearly). In addition, the broadcasts have left us with memorable moments despite their recent emergence. From unique celebrations such as Puebla’s Santiago Ormeño putting on his sunglasses after beating his rival, to the fact of seeing the Martinoli-Dr. Garcia duo breaking it down narrating a video game.
A format that seems to fit the needs of today’s audience. Fast, entertaining, and involving the younger audience, can you imagine future games of this kind in the halftime of the matches with the transmission on the stadium screen? Will the teams now hire pro players to represent them in this discipline?
The reality is that, like it or not, it is a format that is gaining many followers. In Spain, a whirlwind tournament was held with players from 18 of the 20 First Division teams for charity purposes, in England they will do the same in the second half of April, and MLS, seeing the effect it had in Mexico, is already preparing a similar tournament.
And you, do you like it? Do you think you are better than anyone else playing virtually? Get ready and start training, we will soon have surprises for you and that gamer that every soccer lover carries inside.
