No one planned for it to be special. It started like any other Thursday: someone texted “anything for dinner?” to the group, and in less than an hour there were six people at the table.
The first drinks arrived—doubles, as they always do here—and with them, the kind of conversation that starts lighthearted and ends in laughter that can be heard two tables away. Someone ordered a cut of meat to share “just to try,” and it ended up being the order everyone wanted seconds of. Another insisted they order something spicy, and the whole table ended up defending or attacking that decision with a passion that had nothing to do with the food.
Midnight, the live music changed the pace of the conversation without anyone asking for it. The talks became slower, more honest. That kind of honesty that only comes out when you’ve been comfortable for a while, without rushing, without a clock.
No one remembers what time it got late. They only remember that at some point they stopped looking at their phones, stopped thinking about tomorrow, and stayed there, at that table, a little longer than planned.
Those are the nights that aren’t planned, they just happen. And sometimes all it takes is a good place and the right people for it to happen.
